Old Largs Photos and Postcards Quiz

Question 18 Answer

The Old McCabes Pub now renamed Drouthy Neebors.

The original name of this pub was the Jubilee public house and was built in 1887 ,the year of Queen Victorias golden jubilee. It was built by a Mr John Watson who also ran a successful ship breaker company. A Royal Navy warship was scrapped three years earlier and the wood from it was used in the building for the joists rafters and other woodwork. The ship may have been called The Duke but more research is needed to confirm this.

In 1991 it became Whams restaurant, then in 1997 McCabe’s and more recently Drouthy Neebors. John Watson had his initials buil t into the side of the building which faces the Station and can still be seen today at the top near the roof.
