Old Largs Photos and Postcards Quiz

Question 16 Answer

The Largs pier was officially opened in 1834. The first ship to use it was a small paddle steamer called the "Glasgow" built in 1829. After the pier opened it was then used by two wooden stream ships the Victor and the Warrior which made daily visits from Glasgow.

Another Largs visitor the Iron Paddle Steamer Mars ran aground in a Storm and sunk at the mouth of the Go Go burn on the 11th April 1855.

The Mars paddle steamer is pictured on the right passing Gourock.
