Its original location was in front of Morris's Restuarnt on Gallowgate Street.

Morris's was originaly Dr Campbells house built 1815. Later it became the Royal Hotel and then Morris's Lounge bar. The Campbell fountain was built in 1874 to the memory of local Dr John Campbell. It was erected in front of Dr Campbells house. It was moved to Mackerston in the late 1890's. Its inscribed "The people of Largs to John Campbell for 61 years their beloved physician. Born 1791, died 1873."
